In 2004 Cochrane entered the MLS SuperDraft and was selected overall by the San Jose Earthquakes. At first he was largely backup, but finished the year with 18 starts and 1459 minutes. In 2006 he moved to Houston Dynamo with the rest of the Earthquakes and returned in 2008 as he was aired via the 2007 MLS Expansion Draft from Houston. In 2009 he was traded back to Houston. Then in the 2010 MLS Re-entry Draft New England Revolution selected him and in 2012, the San Antonio Scorpions signed Cochrane. He played college soccer at Santa Clara University from 2001 to 2003 and in his final year was named second team All American and was a semifinalist for a Hermann Trophy.
