Evan Sassano, a 2009 University of California, Berkeley graduate, has signed for the Stars after beginning his career in the amateur divisions of German soccer. An outside back, Sassano will look to follow recent precedent set by Justin Davis and Scott Lorenz of rookies succeeding in defense in Minnesota. Sassano was a four-year letterman at Cal, where he played in 53 games, making 40 starts. Following his college career, he played with SC Hartenfels Torgau in the 10th division of German pyramid before moving to FSV 63 Luckenwalde in the fifth tier of German soccer.
