Match Preview: Fort Lauderdale vs. Atlanta
Strikers Host Silverbacks on Saturday
Posted on Fri, May 25, 2012

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers welcome the winless Atlanta Silverbacks to Lockhart Stadium Saturday night. After a difficult month for both teams, the Strikers and Silverbacks will be hoping to end May with a win. Last weekend the Strikers suffered a 3-1 to the Minnesota Stars at home, and remain winless in May. The Silverbacks start a three-match road trip having lost 3-2 to the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Silverbacks Park, their fourth consecutive defeat this season.

In midweek U.S. Open Cup Second Round action, both the Strikers and the Silverbacks advanced to the third round with victories over amateur opposition. In the match against Georgia Revolution, Silverbacks goalkeeper Joe Nasco saved a penalty, and Raphael Cox scored the lone goal of a game with a long-distance shot to secure their passage into the next round. In South Florida, the Strikers defeated Fresno Fuego 7-2 in pouring rain, thanks in no small part to forward Aly Hassan who tallied his second hat-trick of the season.
