Match Preview: Edmonton vs. Atlanta
"Eddies" Host Silverbacks on Sunday
Posted on Fri, Jun 1, 2012

FC Edmonton welcome the Atlanta Silverbacks to Alberta, Canada for their second match of a three-game home stand at Clarke Stadium. The Eddies occupy sixth place in the table, two places above rock-bottom Atlanta.

The Silverbacks head into this tricky away fixture on the back of a disappointing 5-1 defeat to the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.  A goal from Silverbacks’ top-scorer Reinaldo Navia was nothing more than a consolation for the visiting Silverbacks team after goals from Andy Rose, Osvalso Alonso, Alex Caskey, and Sammy Ochoa eliminated the NASL team from the tournament.

Last weekend, FC Edmonton let a two-goal lead slip against a visiting San Antonio Scorpions to draw 2-2. The star of the show was once again Alberta native Shaun Saiko, the midfielder capping off a fantastic month with a goal and an assist.

In their inaugural season, the Eddies got the better of the Silverbacks in each of the four encounters, ultimately going 4-0-0 against last season’s last-place team. The Silverbacks could only manage one goal against their Canadian opponents, and conceded a total of eight times against Edmonton.

With just three points separating the two sides in the NASL standings, Atlanta could get their season on track with a huge upset on the road.
