Match Preview: Puerto Rico vs. Edmonton
Islanders Host FC Edmonton on Saturday
Posted on Fri, Jul 6, 2012

Less than a week after facing each other in Canada, FC Edmonton travel south to challenge the Puerto Rico Islanders at the Bayamón Soccer Complex in Puerto Rico.

On July 4, the Islanders suffered their largest defeat since joining the NASL, falling 4-0 at the hands of Minnesota Stars FC. The game marked the second match in a row that the Islanders failed to find the back of the net. After a great start to the season, the goals have dried up for star forwards Nicholas Addlery, David Foley and Jonathan Faña, the attacking trio responsible for just three goals in the last five matches.

Goals have been even harder to come by for FC Edmonton. Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to the league-leading San Antonio Scorpions was the fourth match in a row that Edmonton failed to score a goal. Edmonton’s biggest attacking threat, Shaun Saiko, assisted on both of Edmonton’s last two goals, but hasn’t scored himself since May 27.

With both side finding it difficult to score, it may come as no surprise that the last two matches between the two have ended in 0-0 draws. With a win, the Islanders can close the gap on first place to one point. The Eddies, just one place out of a the last playoff spot, will want to prevent falling further behind the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, while keeping distance above the Atlanta Silverbacks.
