Match Preview: Puerto Rico vs. San Antonio
First Place On The Line Wednesday in Bayamon
Posted on Wed, Jul 11, 2012

Bayamón Soccer Complex is once again the venue for another first place versus second place clash, as the Puerto Rico Islanders host the league-leading San Antonio Scorpions. The Islanders have a chance to draw level with the Scorpions at the top of the standings win a home victory, something they haven’t been able to achieve their previous two home matches.

The Islanders are coming off of a 1-1 home draw with FC Edmonton on Saturday. The hosts took a first half lead through Jonathan Faña’s fourth goal of the season, but Kyle Porter’s equalizer early in the second half gave Edmonton a deserved point. The game prior, the Islanders were on the wrong end of a 4-0 score, playing away to the Minnesota Stars.

San Antonio did not feature at the weekend, and will have had a full week of rest before the match. In their last match, on July 4, the Scorpions defeated FC Edmonton by a goal to nil, Esteban Bayona scoring his fourth goal in four games to expand San Antonio’s lead atop the table.

Last time out the Scorpions defeated the Islanders 2-0 on June 16 in Bayamón, the only home defeat the Islanders have suffered in over two seasons. Esteban Bayona and Pablo Campos each scored for the visitors to displace the Islanders and move into first place.
