Match Preview: Fort Lauderdale vs. Puerto Rico
Strikers Host Islanders on Saturday
Posted on Fri, Sep 7, 2012

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers take on the Puerto Rico Islanders for the final time this season, Saturday night at Lockhart Stadium. The last time the Islanders visited Lockhart, Aly Hassan scored the first professional hat-trick of his career to lead Fort Lauderdale to a 3-2 win.

In the Strikers last match, the team fell to a 3-0 defeat in a Florida Derby against in-state rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies. The loss snapped up an eight-match unbeaten record at home for Fort Lauderdale.

The Islanders didn’t fare much better in their last match, losing 3-1 at home to the Carolina RailHawks. The defeat was just the third at home for Puerto Rico in the last 26 home games. Despite the result, the Islanders qualified for the playoffs as FC Edmonton lost to the Atlanta Silverbacks.

The teams played out a scoreless draw in the most recent meeting between them, in what was the first NASL match in the newly renovated Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel. A similar result would be enough for Fort Lauderdale to clinch a playoff berth.
