Match Preview: Minnesota vs. Puerto Rico
Stars Host Islanders on Tuesday
Posted on Mon, Sep 10, 2012

The Stars are coming off a heartbreaking 1-1 tie with Edmonton. With an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot, Minnesota conceded a goal to Shaun Saiko on the last kick of the game.  The Stars can  still clinch a playoff berth on Tuesday with a victory over Puerto Rico. Minnesota has scored just five goals in the last nine matches. To address the team’s lack of goal-scorers, the Stars acquired the services of Jamie Watson on loan from USL Pro’s Orlando City for the remainder of the season. Watson made his Minnesota debut on Saturday and took four shots.

The Islanders played hard fought 1-1 draw with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Saturday. The Islanders bounced back somewhat from a poor home effort the previous week, losing 3-1 the Carolina RailHawks. The defeat was just the third at home for Puerto Rico in the last 26 home games. Despite that result, the Islanders qualified for the playoffs as FC Edmonton lost to the Atlanta Silverbacks the next day.
