Every month NASL.com updates our fans on former NASL players now playing in Major League Soccer or other leagues across the world.

Information as of December 23, 2012

Bryan Arguez

Former Fort Lauderdale Strikers and FC Edmonton midfielder is a free agent having been released by Montreal Impact earlier in the month, following the Impact’s postseason tour in Italy. Arguez, 23, is a former US youth national team member.

Jeff Attinella, Real Salt Lake (MLS)

2012 NASL Bext XI goalkeeper signed with Real Salt Lake on December 3 following a standout season with his hometown club and NASL Champions Tampa Bay Rowdies. Attinella, 24, will compete with homegrown Eduardo Fernandez and USMNT goalkeeper Nick Rimando for a spot between the posts.

Etienne Barbara

2011 NASL Golden Ball and Golden Boot winner Etienne Barbara parted ways with Vancouver Whitecaps FC following an injury-plagued first season in Major League Soccer. The Whitecaps chose not to exercise the option in Barbara’s contract following a less-than-impressive year for the former Carolina RailHawks’ frontman. Barbara, 30, was limited to just 13 minutes of MLS action with the Canadian outfit after failing to fully recover from a sports hernia injury picked up in preseason.

Chukwudi Chijindu, Thór (ISL)

The former on-loan Miami FC (now Fort Lauderdale Strikers) forward signed with Thór Akureyri of the Icelandic second division in August. Chijindu, 26, scored five goals in nine games to help Thór claim first place in the division and promotion to the top-flight Úrvalsdeild.

Josh Gardner, Sporting Kansas City (MLS)

The former Carolina RailHawks midfielder signed with MLS’ Eastern Conference Champs Sporting Kansas City in a trade with Montreal Impact. Gardner, 30, has also had spells with MLS clubs LA Galaxy and the Columbus Crew.

Bill Gaudette

Puerto Rico national team goalkeeper Gaudette, 31, spent the 2012 season splitting time between the LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls. He is currently a free agent after going undrafted in the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft.

Chris Klute, Colorado Rapids (MLS)

The Silverbacks defender  who is on loan in MLS, was one of four Colorado Rapids players to spend 10 days in December training with Derby County of the English Football League Championship. It’s another huge step for Klute, 22, who just six months ago was playing for the Atlanta Silverbacks reserve team.

Paulo Jr., Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS)

The former Fort Lauderdale Strikers forward was snapped up my Martin Rennie and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft following his release from Real Salt Lake. Paulo, 23, made 22 appearances for Salt Lake last season scoring a pair of goals and assists, and spent a brief spell on loan to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Jonny Steele

Despite featuring off the bench more than any other player on Real Salt Lakes’s roster in 2012, Steele’s option was declined earlier in the month. While with the RailHawks in 2011, Steele, 26, was tied for the league-lead in assists during the regular season with eight.

Tsuyoshi Yoshitake, FC Yokohama Hong Kong (HKG)

The former Tampa Bay Rowdies attacker is flourishing in his role as the captain of FC Yokohama Hong Kong. With seven goals in his first eight Hong Kong First Division appearances, Yoshitake, 31, is second on the top-scorers chart.
