The 2013 NASL Combine has generated interest from all players of all skill levels from all corners of the globe. Even a former member of a France World Cup squad wants a piece of the action.
Last week it was announced that Pascal Chimbonda, a Premier League veteran and former France international, will be participating in this year’s NASL Combine. Chimbonda was so well respected in England that he was selected as a member of the 2005-06 Premier League Best XI team.Chimbonda played in England for seven seasons.
“It’s my dream to come to America and play football,” replied Chimbonda when asked what drew him to the combine. “I think American football wants to develop something good, and I want to be a part of that.”
Chimbonda, 33, boats a CV that most players in professional soccer around the world will never achieve. The French defender has made over 150 appearances in the top flight of English football for clubs like Wigan Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, and Queens Park Rangers. At Tottenham, Chimbonda was on a side that won the League Cup and made another Wembley final in the competition.
“In England, it’s a tough league,” said Chimbonda. “But this will be a new challenge. “I have the opportunity to come here and show how good I am.”
Chimbonda has stood out in the first two days of the NASL Combine showing his ability to play his natural right back position or slot inside to play center back.
