NASL Ottawa Franchise Selects Ottawa Fury Football Club as its Name
Team Will Begin NASL Play in 2014

February 26, 2013 (Ottawa, ON): The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) today announced the official name for Ottawa’s new North American Soccer League (NASL) franchise will be Ottawa Fury FC.  The decision was made after consulting Ottawa soccer fans in a “name the team campaign,” which generated some 4,000 suggestions.

“We are so very grateful to everyone who participated in the naming campaign,” said John Pugh, President of Ottawa Fury FC.  “We received many good suggestions and, after much deliberation, no name surpassed that of the Ottawa Fury, which already associates Ottawa with success on the field and stability off the field across North America.”

“The Ottawa Fury brand is well respected in both Canada and the United States,” said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. “The hard work that has been put into this project will ensure success both on and off the field for many years to come. We are excited that Ottawa’s first kick in NASL at the new Lansdowne Stadium is just around the corner.”

Multiple team branding concepts are now being developed by internationally acclaimed Downstream Design and Technology of Portland, Oregon, and Ottawa Fury FC will soon launch a campaign for Ottawa soccer fans to assist Downstream in the selection of the official logo that the team will proudly wear for generations to come.  Details of that contest will be released in the coming weeks.

“Our goal is to provide exciting, affordable professional soccer to passionate fans in a soccer-friendly new stadium,” said Pugh. “This is Ottawa’s team and it is really important for our fans to feel and be part of it. The next twelve months will prove very exciting as we continue to build the Ottawa Fury FC franchise.”

The Ottawa Fury legacy, under John Pugh’s leadership, is a winning culture at all levels. The Fury women’s program won the W-League North American Championship last July. The men’s program has captured division titles in three of the past four seasons, and Fury’s Youth Academy has seen its Boys program ranked 1st in North America over the past two years among Super Y-League clubs.
