Edmonton AB (May 2, 2013) - Despite being winless until last weekend, FC Edmonton could sit in second place if results go their way in Week 5.
The Eddies have aspirations of moving into contention for a home berth in Soccer Bowl 2013 as they take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies in St. Petersburg Saturday (K.O. 5:30 p.m. MT) with second place in sight.
The game will mark the fifth in just over two weeks, two of which were against MLS-side Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Amway Canadian Championships, and FCE will be looking for its first win on the road this season.
If there is a winner from the top of the table clash between Minnesota and Carolina on Saturday, one of those teams will boast 10 points and the other seven, with a dent in their goal difference. If Atlanta loses against San Antonio, they will remain on six points. That would open the door for FC Edmonton to tally seven points by beating the Rowdies, joining them on seven points overall and hoping for enough of a goal difference swing to steal second place.
“The character has been there for all to see all season and we’ve never given up,” said Eddies coach Colin Miller. “If we continue to play with the same attitude there’s so many positives, but I still expect more. We’re back in the pack and now we go to a very tough place to play the Tampa Bay Rowdies.”
After this match, the Eddies will head home before facing the Atlanta Silverbacks at Clarke Stadium on May 12.The game versus the Rowdies will be available at www.fcedmonton.com and will also be shown at the Pint off Whyte.
