On a night when the New York Cosmos (7W-3T-1L, 24pts) came out on the attack, the Carolina RailHawks (4W-2T-5L, 14pts) found little that could go right on a cold, New York night. The RailHawks wound up on the wrong side of a 4-0 result at the hands of the Cosmos.
The RailHawks had trouble finding their offensive touch in a match that saw the return of RailHawks leading scorer, Brian Shriver. Despite Shriver’s return to the lineup the RailHawks were without midfielders Austin da Luz, Cesar Elizondo, and Tiyiselani Shipalane due to injury. After missing the last three matches from a concussion, Shriver was unable to regain his previous form as the RailHawks were outshot 18 to 6.
The Cosmos jumped on the board in the 8th minute when former US international, Danny Szetela, one-timed a low cross from Diomar Diaz into the back of the net.
Three second half goals from Diaz, Marcos Senna, and Alessandro Noselli in the 53rd, 76th and 90th minutes, respectively, would finish off the match for New York.
The RailHawks remain on the road, traveling to Minnesota on Saturday, October 19th to face Minnesota United. On Saturday, October 26th the RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park to face the Atlanta Silverbacks. Prior to the match, the RailHawks will host the Second Annual RailHawks Homebrew Soktoberfest starting at 5 p.m. For more information on Soktoberfest and the October 26th match call the St. Lawrence Homes Box Office at (919) 459-8144 or e-mail Tickets@CarolinaRailHawks.com.
