FC Edmonton takes on the Carolina RailHawks on Sunday, August 16 at 4:00 p.m. ET at Clarke Field.
The Eddies are coming off a 1-1 draw on the road against Minnesota United. The Loons took the lead in the second half from the penalty spot and the Eddies answered off the foot of striker Tomi Ameobi, tying Lance Laing at the top of the Eddies goalscoring list with six.
Eddies goalkeeper Matt VanOekel and midfielder Laing earned NASL Team of the Week honors for their performances against Minnesota. VanOekel was outstanding against his former team, while Laing got his league-leading sixth assist on Ameobi’s equalizer.
The RailHawks are coming off a Wednesday defeat to Jacksonville Armada FC. Carolina was unable to mount a comeback after Jacksonville scored back-to-back goals midway through the opening half. Carolina currently sits in sixth place in the Fall Season Standings and fifth in the Combined Standings.
RailHawks striker Nacho Novo has been Carolina’s main threat in 2015 with seven goals in 13 appearances.
The second match at Clarke Field between the two sides carries potential postseason implications. With a win, the Eddies would leapfrog the RailHawks and could climb as high as fourth if Minnesota United and the Atlanta Silverbacks lose.
“It is another important fixture for us,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. “We need to capture as many points as we can at home. Carolina will be hurting after their result on Wednesday. They have one of the best coaches in the league and they will be looking for a big reaction after their loss. We must be prepared to match that. If we can do that, then we will give ourselves a chance on Sunday.”
