The Atlanta Silverbacks’ ability to remain alive in postseason contention comes down to a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
With a possible nine points left remaining in the regular season, Tampa Bay enters Atlanta Silverbacks Park sitting in the fourth and final postseason spot — but just barely. A Silverbacks win at home would catapult Atlanta into a promising position, just one point under Tampa, for the final two matches — one home and one away against teams that have already qualified for The Championship (Ottawa and Minnesota).
The Rowdies haven’t won on the road during the Fall Season, and hasn’t scored as often as they’d like with four goals away from home, while conceding 14. Tampa Bay finished second in the Spring Season, but currently sit eighth in the Fall Season Standings.
Atlanta is coming off a loss to the Spring Season Champion and Combined Standings-leader New York Cosmos at Atlanta Silverbacks Park, but proved they had the ability to keep up only days earlier in their 1-1 draw at Shuart Stadium.
Atlanta’s final two games of the season are against Minnesota United and Fury FC, which means the Silverbacks could be in a wild ending to the season. In order for the Silverbacks to make The Championship, they have to get points this weekend.
