Experienced Midfielder Marvin Chávez Joins Rayo OKC

The Honduran played in the World Cup in 2014 and spent last season in the NASL with San Antonio

Rayo OKC has signed Marvin Chávez to a contract for the 2016 season, the club announced Thursday.

The veteran winger has six years of international experience, playing in the 2014 World Cup for Honduras as well other international tournaments like the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2009 and 2013 and Copa Centroamericana in 2011.

Chávez has 38 international appearances for Honduras in his career.

“We are ecstatic about signing Marvin Chávez,” head coach Alen Marcina said. “I had the pleasure of coaching him last year in San Antonio. We are getting an outstanding person and an excellent player, who has tremendous experience, both internationally and professionally.”

He played for Chivas USA, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, and San Jose Eathquakes in a six-year stin in MLS. The 32-year-old La Ceiba, Honduras, native was named an MLS All-Star in 2012 after leading San Jose in assists with 13 on the season.

In 2015, Chávez played in the NASL for the San Antonio Scorpions. His professional career began in his native Honduras with Victoria and later played for Marathón before making the move stateside. 

“Any time you can add a player to your roster with World Cup experience and who was an MLS All-Star is a great accomplishment,” Marcina said. “Marvin is going to be a great asset for our team and will be an entertaining player for our fans to watch.”
