Minnesota United has expanded its defensive depth with the signing of Jeb Brovsky. Formerly of New York City FC, Brovsky has extensive experience playing in Major League Soccer.
The 27-year-old Lakewood, Colorado, native trained with the team during the preseason tour in Mexico.
“Jeb is an outstanding leader and versatile player and we liked what we saw from him in Mexico while he trained with us,” United head coach Carl Craig said. “He has a lot of experience and he brings a cool head and leadership to the team on and off the pitch.”
Brovsky was a part of the game-day lineup for NYCFC throughout most of the 2015 season, filling the role of left back. He was one of the main starters in the back line for the first half of the year, seeing time off the bench for the remainder of his time with the club.
“This is a club that is clearly going places and has a very bright future so I’m excited to be a part of it,” Brovsky said. “I’m a versatile player with a winning mentality. I came here to win and I know the fans and coaches have the same expectations.”
After an impressive four years with Notre Dame, he was drafted 19th overall in the 2011 SuperDraft by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He made his professional debut on April 10, and played 24 matches for Whitecaps FC in their first MLS season.
He then moved to another expansion side, the Montreal Impact, in 2012. He became one of the go-to defenders for the Impact, playing in nearly every game for his first two years with the club. He helped lead the team to back-to-back Amway Canadian Championship titles in 2013 and 2014.
During the 2014 season, Brovsky was traded to NYCFC to become the club’s second signing. Since NYCFC did not begin MLS play until 2015, Brovsky was loaned to Strømsgodset in Norway. Brovsky rejoined NYCFC to play the 2015 season with the club, starting off the year as the starting left back. The club released him at the end of the season.
Brovsky has two goals and four assists in his MLS career.
