Ottawa Fury FC announced Thursday that the club has acquired Uruguayan midfielder Bryan Olivera on loan from Brazilian side Fluminense pending ITC approval.
"Bryan is a really creative player that I saw for the first time when I went scouting in Rio about 18 months ago and he caught my eye right away," Ottawa coach Paul Dalglish said. "He can bring a lot of creativity and he has a real eye for that final pass. We are really pleased to have him here."
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Olivera has developed in Uruguay where he played his youth soccer with Deportivo Maldonado. In 2013, the 22-year-old midfielder moved to Italy to join the youth team of Serie A side Genoa. The following year, he moved to Fluminense in Brazil, where he finished the season before joining LA Galaxy II in the United Soccer League (USL). There, Olivera helped Galaxy II win the USL Western Conference title sending them to the USL Championship Final.
Olivera is the son of former professional footballer Washington Olivera, who played in the NASL for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1980-81 and also featured at the international level with the Uruguayan national team during his career.
