The Fort Lauderdale Strikers headed to north to Canada needing a landslide victory over FC Edmonton to overtake Indy Eleven for the Spring Season Championship, but the hosts had other ideas on Sunday. A pair of first-half goals from forward Jake Keegan pushed the Eddies past the Strikers in a 2-1 win at Clarke Stadium.

The Strikers needed to win by six goals or more over Edmonton in the Spring Season finale in order to claim the title, but it was the home side that asserted itself early on. Keegan, who came over from the League of Ireland's Galway United in the offseason, ran onto a beautiful pass from Daryl Fordyce and calmly slotted a shot past visiting goalkeeper Diego Restrepo in the 18th minute.

With the Strikers on their heels, the 25-year-old forward doubled the Eddies' lead in the 31st minute, heading an Eddie Edward cross beyond an out-of-position Restrepo. After Fort Lauderdale midfielder PC converted from the penalty spot early in the second half, it looked like the visitors might claw back to get a result, but the Edmonton defense held strong in the end to take all three points.
