FC Edmonton won its eighth consecutive home game of the year, defeating the Carolina RailHawks, 1-0, at Clarke Field on Sunday afternoon. The victory moved the Eddies into a first-place tie, on points, with New York. The Cosmos maintained their slim hold on the top spot in the Fall Season Standings on goal differential (plus-four to plus-three), but FC Edmonton has one game in hand.
Dustin Corea led a quick counterattack that ended with FC Edmonton (4W-1D-1L, 13 points) taking a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute. His pass to Tomi Ameobi got past a Carolina (2-1-3, 7) defender as the Eddies striker raced to the end line and crossed to Jake Keegan for the tap-in. It was Keegan’s fifth goal of the year.
The RailHawks were shutout for the second straight game on their two-match Canadian road trip.
