TEAM OF THE WEEK | Fall Season Week 5

New York's Lucky Mkosana, FC Edmonton's Tomi Ameobi, and Rayo OKC's Futty Danso were among the shining stars in Week 5

New York Cosmos forward Lucky Mkosana and FC Edmonton forward Tomi Ameobi played integral parts in their teams keeping their home home winning streaks intact. Rayo OKC defender Futty Danso led the way as Rayo OKC continued its strong run of results. 

Find out the other top performers from Week 5 below: 

GK: Romuald Peiser (Ottawa Fury FC) – The reigning Golden Boot winner kept a pair of shutouts – 2-0 over the Carolina RailHawks and 2-0 over the Tampa Bay Rowdies – in Week 5. Ottawa is currently riding a three-game shutout streak, all resulting in wins.

DEF: Albert Watson (FC Edmonton) – The Eddies’ captain played a key role in the defense as FC Edmonton picked up two victories – including one shutout – to increase its home winning streak to eight games. He made a total of 12 interceptions and won 12 duels in Week 5.

DEF: Mallan Roberts (Ottawa Fury FC) – He helped Ottawa keep two shutouts, winning nine duels and five tackles as well as making 10 clearances across the two games. He also scored in the win over Tampa Bay. 

DEF: Futty Danso (Rayo OKC) – The Gambian international was key in Rayo OKC earning four points in Week 5. He made 10 clearances against the Tampa Bay Rowdies to help preserve a 1-0 win. Danso then had an assist and later a game-tying goal to bookend a wild 2-2 finish against Minnesota United. 

MID: Jeb Brovsky (Minnesota United) – He helped control the tempo in the game with near-perfect passing. Brovsky completed 64 of his 65 attempts and was active in the midfield all game long as the Loons played to a draw with Rayo OKC.

MID: Billy Forbes (Rayo OKC) – The Turks and Caicos international was busy in the attacking areas against the Rowdies and was rewarded for it, capitalizing on a mistake for the game-winning goal. He also helped Rayo OKC earn a draw later in the week.

MID: Juan Arango (New York Cosmos) – The Venezuelan star scored in the Cosmos’ 2-1 defeat to FC Edmonton, and he followed it up with another strong performance. He scored and assisted a goal to help New York claim a new league record for 10 straight home wins with a 3-0 defeat of Puerto Rico FC.

MID: Michael Lahoud (Miami FC) – The Sierra Leone international helped limit Indy Eleven’s ability to attack Lahoud was also tidy with possession, completing 25 of his 30 pass attempts.

FWD: Tomi Ameobi (FC Edmonton) – Coming on as a substitute against the New York Cosmos, Ameobi had a huge impact. Two of his shooting attempts ended in rebounds that directly led to both Eddies' goals in the comeback win. He then started and assisted on FC Edmonton’s lone goal in the 1-0 win over Carolina.

FWD: Maicon Santos (Fort Lauderdale Strikers) – He struck late to lift the Strikers past Jacksonville Armada FC in a 1-0 win.

FWD: Lucky Mkosana (New York Cosmos) – He was the catalyst in New York’s win over Puerto Rico. He created an own goal with a dangerous cross, assisted Juan Arango’s goal, and then scored one of his own in the record-setting victory. The forward was also named Player of the Week for his efforts.
