Miami FC has signed Italian defender Alessandro Lambrughi, the club announced today.
"As I mentioned before, we have been looking to add some support in our defense," said Head Coach Alessandro Nesta. "I think that Alessandro will do exactly that. He's a player with years of experience in Italy and helped his team accomplish a lot. We hope that he can bring that passion and athleticism to our team."
After coming up through the A.C. Milan youth academy and cutting his teeth in Italy’s lower divisions, Lambrughi signed with Serie B side Livorno in 2010. The left-back would become a fixture for Livorno, making 259 appearances over seven seasons of service.
Lambrughi was instrumental in Livorno’s promotion to Serie A in 2013, making 40 appearances including starts in all three promotion playoff matches. The club’s stint in the country’s top league would be short lived as they would move back to Serie B the following season.
Lambrughi would remain with Livorno for four more seasons, making nearly 100 appearances, before making the move stateside, joining Miami FC.
The veteran defender will be available for Sunday's match against the Jacksonville Armada.
